Georgia’s red clay and sloped lots mean retaining walls are a fact of life in a lot of Atlanta backyards. But a wall doesn’t have to look like a highway barrier. Built with the right stone and set by hand, it looks like part of the yard.

We build retaining walls, garden walls, privacy walls, and stone borders across the Atlanta metro. Every wall is hand-laid with natural stone — no poured concrete with veneer glued to the face.

Types of walls we build

Retaining walls — Engineered to hold back soil on sloped lots. Common in Buckhead, Dunwoody, and Marietta where yards drop off steeply behind the house. Ours are built with drainage behind the face, compacted backfill, and footers sized for the load. The 80-foot wall system we built in West Cobb took about a month and it’s holding back a hillside that had been eroding for years.

Garden walls — Shorter walls that define planting beds, separate lawn areas, or create raised garden spaces. No structural load, so the stone choice is purely about how you want it to look. We usually go with dry-stack fieldstone or cut flagstone.

Privacy walls — Stone walls that replace or supplement wood fencing. They age better, don’t rot, don’t need staining, and block more sound. Homeowners near busy roads in Sandy Springs and Roswell have specifically asked us about the noise reduction.

Seat walls — Low walls around fire pits, patios, or pool decks that double as seating. Capped with smooth flagstone so they’re comfortable to sit on.

Why stone holds up here

Georgia’s freeze-thaw cycles crack poured concrete and shift paver walls over time. Natural stone with proper drainage and footings handles the temperature swings because there’s some give in a hand-laid wall that a rigid pour doesn’t have. We’ve been building walls in this clay for 35 years. We know what fails.

How it works

John walks the site with you to look at the grade, drainage, and soil. He recommends the wall type, height, and stone. You go to the yard together to pick material. The crew digs, pours footers, sets drainage, and lays the stone. Most retaining wall projects run two to four weeks.

We serve Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Marietta, Roswell, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Johns Creek, Kennesaw, Woodstock, and surrounding areas. Call John at (770) 361-7446 or email [email protected].
