Our Story
John Gray started Atlanta Waterscapes more than 35 years ago. The idea was simple: build outdoor spaces by hand, with real stone, and actually show up to do the work yourself. That’s still how we operate.
What started as John doing masonry work on his own in the Atlanta area has turned into a full-service company handling stonework, water features, outdoor kitchens, and landscaping across more than 20 communities in the metro. The company grew, but John never stepped back from the work. He still meets with every client, walks every property, and stays involved through the build.
That’s the main difference between us and the larger outfits. You’re not going to deal with a sales rep first and meet the actual crew later. John is the first person you talk to and the last person to check the finished work.
Our Philosophy
The process starts at the stoneyard. John goes with you to pick the actual stone for your project. Not samples from a binder — the real material. You see the color, the grain, the texture. You choose what goes in your yard. Most people are surprised this is an option. For us, it’s how every project begins.
After that, our crew handles the full scope: grading and drainage, foundation prep, stone-setting, water feature plumbing and engineering, planting, and finish landscaping. We bring in master carpenters for pavilion framing and outdoor kitchen structures. For pond and waterfall work, we engineer the filtration and pump systems in-house.
Project timelines vary. A patio or walkway might take a few weeks. A full backyard with an outdoor kitchen, water feature, stone walls, and landscaping can run several months. Our $85,000 West Cobb project — outdoor kitchen, pizza oven, fire pit, 80 feet of stone walls — took one month. That’s on the fast end, but it gives you an idea of what’s possible when the crew and the plan are right.
